Christian Education
Continued growth
in the knowledge and love of God is of prime importance
to our congregation. Our education program for all ages
awakens us to the ways God is calling us to create a new
world.
Classes are separated by age and
(except Senior Youth on alternate Sundays) meet after fellowship hour.
Classes are scheduled to start at 11:30 AM, but the actual time can
vary slightly depending on how long
the worship service has taken that day. Classes end at 12:15
PM. See the Calendar page for dates
when there are special events or holidays on which classes are not
held, and see the Christian Education
News page for
updates on current events. For description of a typical year's
activities, see the Associate
Pastor's report for 2005.
We have two classrooms to provide permanent, dedicated space in a contiguous
and more convenient area. The design follows "safe
church" guidelines. Click here

Helping children understand
and embrace their spiritual questions and longings is
a challenge all parents face. At NHCC, children engage
their Christian heritage.
-
Church School (grades pre-K
to 5) allows children to gain a greater understanding of
the Bible and its relevance to their lives. Creative
programs enhance their experience
together. Classes are divided by age and meet in various
rooms downstairs. This year, we will be using the
Seasons
of the Spirit curriculum..
-
Middle Youth (grades 6-8)
meet weekly to learn about scripture and prayer. In
addition, the group participates in service projects and has fun
at evening gatherings, day trips, and overnight retreats. The class
usually meets upstairs.
-
Senior Youth (grades 9-12)
meet alternate Sundays at 6 PM. The group undertakes a week-long mission trip each
summer. (For some photos of the 2006 trip, click here.)
The trip is supported by a fund-raising event organized and
staffed by the Senior Youth themselves. (For pictures of the
2006 fund-raiser, click
here.) The Senior Youth also organize and lead one or two of our worship
services during the year.
-
Activities such as the Christmas
Pageant, the Alternative Giving Marketplace, and the annual children's musical call forth special
gifts.
-
Confirmation (biennial,
grades 8-9) is a year-long
process of learning and service to prepare our youth
to become full members of the church.
-
Adult Education studies
scripture, other lessons on spirituality, contemporary social
issues, and concerns within NHCC itself. Adults meet on
the main floor, usually in the Parlor.
