Installation and Communion,
March 9
A celebration in Lent? Well, yes! Since by
tradition Sundays in Lent are not fast days, we do sometimes lift up joyful
praise. This was such an occasion. (For more on Lent, click
here.)
On Sunday, March 9, the Reverend Kenneth F. Baily was officially
"installed" as senior pastor of NHCC. This ceremony was led by
the Metropolitan Boston Association of the United Church of Christ, and
participants included many friends and neighbors of NHCC as well as Ken's
friends, colleagues, and mentors.

The ceremony began with a formal procession of choir...

Music was enhanced by a brass quintet.

The sermon was given by John Cook, UCC pastor and professor emeritus at Yale
Divinity School.

There was a formal ceremony and litany of installation...
Let us look to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the
joy that was waiting endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at
the right hand of the throne of God.

...including covenant between pastor and congregation...
We, the members of the Newton Highlands Congregational Church United
Church of Christ, receive Kenneth as our pastor and teacher, promising to labor
with him in the ministry of the gospel...
