On Sunday, October 2, NHCC held its third annual
"Blessing of the Animals" ceremony. Based on ancient Christian
tradition, this ceremony honors God's world of animals and their importance for
our lives.

The event took place as always on the front lawn of the church. It was
a spectacular fall day.
Ken offered prayers and pointed out that animals are part of God's creation,
and we are responsible for wise stewardship of this earth and all its creatures.
As usual, and not surprising given our location in Newton Highlands, dogs
were the most numerous of the species blessed.
Each animal received a prayer and a brief sprinkle of water, the symbol of
life. The book is Reluctant Saint: the Life of Francis of Assisi by
Donald Spoto.
