Holy Week 2009
Holy Week begins with Palm/Passion Sunday, this year April 5. The morning worship service commemorates Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and His capture and execution later in the week. Here children distribute the palms to the congregation. |

After worship, many continued to think about the events.
Children and youth prepared Easter baskets to be distributed to children at a local homeless shelter. |
Maundy (or Holy) Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus and His disciples. NHCC held a Christian seder. (As Ken reminded us at the beginning, Jesus was Jewish.) Here some children engage in craft projects before dinner. |
The Christian seder has many elements of a Jewish one, though ours is shorter. Here a child has found the last bit of leavened bread. |
Here the door is opened for Elijah. |
All stand for a final prayer. |
The last event before Easter is the Tenebrae Worship (Service of Shadows)
held on Good Friday. This solemn event -- held in near darkness, so no
pictures -- commemorates Jesus' death on the cross.
