As in the past several years, NHCC sponsored a community Easter egg hunt prior to worship.
Here senior pastor Ken Baily welcomes the everyone and prepares to offer an Easter prayer.
The crowd -- at least the younger members of it -- wait impatiently for the
egg hunt to start.
The
beautiful, warm day (after March's heavy rains) brought out a nice crowd.
Most eggs were easy to find, even for the youngest, but some were better
hidden.
One of the youngest egg hunters. What could be inside?
Oh, so that's what is in the eggs!
A
couple of successful hunters show off their baskets.
A new feature this year was games in Great Hall between the egg hunt and the
start of worship.
The
worship service included all the usual elements. Here Tom Fletcher reads
the scripture from Acts.
Passing the peace -- greeting friends and visitors -- is part of worship
every Sunday.
Music is always an important part of Easter worship, as indeed of almost all
our worship services. Here the congregation rises and sings.
The
delightful trumpet soloists from last year, Ross Hill and Christine Fawson, were
back.
Minister of Christian Education Krysia Burnham's message to the children was
about God's Easter basket. No chocolate bunnies but some things that are
perhaps more important.
Everyone
is listening as Ken reads the Gospel message from Luke. (Spoiler alert...
Jesus' tomb was empty.)
Ken preached the Easter sermon.
As always at NHCC, Easter worship included Holy Communion. Here
Krysia Burnham blesses the bread.
Here
Ken and Krysia distribute the "wine" (actually grape juice so that all
may participate). This picture shows the lilies and tulips that decorated the
sanctuary.
Ken offers the benediction at the end of worship.
The benediction response was the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah,
spectacular with organ, brass, and choir.
After worship, cake and other refreshments were served in the parlor.
There were a wide variety of treats for all ages.
These
young ones seem to have liked it.
